Biografie:
Automaten ist ein Verein, der von einer Gruppe von Medienraumkünstlern mit dem Ziel ins Leben gerufen wur-de, die Automatenkultur zu bewahren und eine künstlerische Analyse des Phänomens Automatisierung anzu-regen. Der Clubraum in Berlin-Mitte fungiert als voll automatisierte Bar, wo ein umgebauter und neu-program-mierter Kaffeeautomat das Öffnen und Schließen der Tür kontrolliert, den Raum überwacht und eine ›Audio-Video-Jukebox‹ betreibt, bei der umsonst Klänge und Bilder von D/VJs gespielt werden. Mitglieder verschaffen sich Eintritt, indem sie mit einer Magnetkarte auf die Tür klopfen. In dem 35 qm großen Raum können Euros gegen ›Automarken‹, die Automaten-Währung, eingetauscht und Snacks und andere Objekte an Automaten ge-zogen werden. Außerdem hält der Raum einen kabellosen Highspeed-Internetanschluss und einen onsite-Termi-nal bereit.
Automaten bietet ein laufendes Programm von Gastautomaten-Auftritten, Ausstellungen, Vorträgen und Film-vorführungen, die sich mit Automatisierung und Technik befassen und ihren Gebrauch und ihre Auswirkungen in der Gesellschaft reflektieren
Von V/DJs gespielte Live-Sets und Narrowcastings vervollständigen die Programmreihe. Mitglieder haben be-gonnen, den Raum für ihre eigenen Ideen zu nutzen: für Treffen, Internet-Workshops, Geburtstagsparties usw.
Biography:
Automaten is a private club, conceived and initiated by a group of media-space artists with the aim of preserving automated cul-ture and encouraging the artistic analysis of automation. The clubroom in Berlin-Mitte functions as a fully automated bar, where a remodeled and re-programmed coffee automat controls the door, monitors the room and runs an audio-video jukebox, which pro-vides sounds and images by d/vj’s for free. Members let themselves in by swiping a magnetic card at the door. Inside the 35-square-metre space Euros can be exchanged for ›automarken‹, the automaten currency, snacks and gadgets obtained from a variety of vending machines. Additionally the space features highspeed wireless internet connectivity and an onsite terminal.
Automaten has an ongoing program of guest automats, exhibitions, lectures and screenings, which address, reflect and speculate on the use and implications of automation and technology in society. Live sets and narrow castings of v/djs complement the pro-gram series. Members started to use the space for their own ideas: meetings, internet-workshops, birthday parties, etc.
