JONAS AT THE OCEAN ist das zweite filmische Portrait von Peter Sempel, das in der ihm eigenen Postpunk Ästhetik, das Leben des "Vaters" des Underground-Kinos und Gründer des New Yorker Anthology Film Archivs, Jonas Mekas, gewidmet ist. Sempel begleitet Jonas zu den Orten seiner Jugend: dem Pier in NY, wo er als Emigrant von mehr als 40 Jahren ankam, bis in seine ursprüngliche Heimat Litauen.

JONAS AT THE OCEAN is second cinematic portrait which Peter Sempel created in his wellknown post-punk aesthetics, is dedicated to the life of the "father" of underground cinema and founder of the New York Anthology Film Archive, Jonas Mekas. Sempel strolls with Jonas to the places of his youth: the pier where Jonas landed in NY over 40 years ago, to the land of his birth, Lithunia.
