Beschreibung:
(Netherlands Media Art Institute, Merel Bem)

Description:
In his video ›Live to Tell,‹ BENNY NEMEROFSKY RAMSAY focuses on identity, a recurring motive in his work. In ›Live to Tell‹, he adds a theme to this: control, which he pushes to the limits. The artist and his environment, a sterile, empty room, are being watched from above by sixteen surveillance cameras. The black-and-white images, which can all be seen simultaneously, show the artist while he is singing Madonna’s ›Live to Tell‹ in various parts. ..... The cold eye of the observation cameras gives something sad to NEMEROFSKY’S actions, as if he were a prisoner who is flouting his boredom by performing an act before the surveillance camera in his cell. But above all, he makes a dream come true by forming a many-voiced orchestra all by himself. (Netherlands Media Art Institute, Merel Bem)
