Lecture: "Art and crisis"
In the ruins of modernity: creative relationism and efficient autonomy.
The nature of fundamental crises is that they question basic concepts and rearrange relationships. It may, therefore, be the case that art does not only react to the crisis but also renews itself with regard to notions and practice. At present, art for the market, for collectors, investors and money launderers is pitted against art of institutions, discourse and curators. Then there are also transitory areas between art and research, art and media, as well as art and the creative industries. The upcoming break will not only dismantle developed structures in this mixed area, but will also create new ones that will continue to exist under the old term »art«. It will only be possible to identify the cracks retrospectively. Because the new always writes its history in retrospect. It will discover what our present was. Trend insights cannot help to find its traces. The upcoming art grows slowly in the ruins of modernity.
