Prof. Brümmer, ZKM Karlsruhe
Together with the documenta Archive Kassel/DOKFEST and the Institute for Music and Acoustics of the ZKM | Centre for Art and Media Karlsruhe, the European Media Art Festival Osnabrück has been commissioned to realise the digital archiving and presentation project mediaartbase.de by the German Federal Cultural Foundation to preserve and restore mobile cultural assets within the KUR programme.
The aim of the mediaartbase.de project is to make the extensive stock of the participating institutions accessible to the public: the historical material of the documenta exhibitions from 1955, the substantial video material of the Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival from 1989, as well as the unique pool of experimental films, video art, performance documentations and installation concepts from the international Media Art scene of the European Media Art Festival Osnabrück, the several institutional levels of the ZKMs producing institutes (ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics and ZKM | Institute for Visual Media), as well as the archives housed in the ZKM. The German Federal Cultural Foundation has also commissioned the project partners to establish an exemplary database structure (projectcoordination: Basis 5, Matthias Zitt) and form of presentation for archives in similar institutions to easily copy and use for their own specific conditions.
