MEDIA ART GARDEN
IN COOPERATION WITH THE MEDIA ART FLOW FESTIVAL/ALMELO

Together with the Media Art Flow Festival (MAFF) in Almelo/NL, the European Media Art Festival will present the Media Art Garden this year. The “hands-on” Media Art Garden will be open to all passers-by and visitors to the city centres at both festival locations, separate from the other festival events.
The artists Karl Heinz Jeron from Germany and Wessel Westerveld, AKA “Wexel”, from the Netherlands will present and continually develop their work in public workshops. An interactive mechanical Media Art Garden will be created in the course of time. The two artists came to international fame through their kinetic objects and installations, which have already been exhibited in numerous countries.

Gardens in the Netherlands, and also in Germany, are increasingly being adapted to a certain pattern that is also reflected in pamphlets and brochures. Standards and values disappear and new ones are formed, enabling the owners to perceive and experience their garden in a completely different way. With their artistic work and devices, the artists take the mickey out of these garden standards, and set absolutely new standards for creative park design with their “green fingers.”

Karl Heinz Jeron will present electro-mechanical objects that draw their energy from fruit and vegetables. For instance, potatoes, which can produce up to one volt of electric power, are transformed into a source of energy for a mechanical sculpture that produces tones and modulates sounds.
Using found material, Wexel constructs art machines that carry out absurd movements and can also create sounds. These two approaches are bound to draw the crowds.
“Supergides”, the group of animators from Oldenzaal in the Netherlands, will roam the streets of Osnabrück, encouraging visitors to participate in the Media Art Garden.
